Buyers are less likely to enter a bidding war with other prospects and lack of demand leads sellers to accept initial offers – or negotiate lower bids. 

Second, sellers who are listing their properties are more motivated to close quickly, because they may need to move as well. This allows buyers to negotiate inspections, included appliances and the like in their favor. In addition, mortgage brokers are less busy in winter and are likely to respond to a sale faster than they would in summer. In a season where time is of the essence, everyone wins. 

Finally, like brokers, realtors have more time in the winter months. The agent picked for a transaction will want to close the sale as much as the buyer and seller involved. That said, realtors should still be showing buyers multiple options, rather than pushing a stalled property on them. Winter gives them as much time and flexibility as the buyer, so buyers shouldn’t be afraid to shop around if they don’t feel they’re getting the best service possible.
